The salespeople for Vivint are really nice and friendly but don't be fooled. You only have 3 days to back out of your contract before you're stuck. When we signed up we asked what happens if you need to cancel. We were told that it's not a problem and we would just have to pay an early termination fee. Unfortunately we didn't ask what the fee was. We had to sell our house a year after signing up and couldn't use the system in the new place so after several calls we were able to get a straight answer. We were told we would have to pay almost $4000 to cancel. Their "early termination fee" is paying off the remainder of your contract. So our best option was to lower our plan to the lowest service they have.

They also weren't able to turn off the monitoring service at our old house. We called several times to have the system put into standby, but each time there was some excuse as to why they couldn't. After 4 calls I was able to get someone tp put the system in standby and they assured me the monitoring was off. A month later we get a call saying the smoke detector was activated and the fire department is at our old house. After speaking to several agents and a supervisor, their solution to make sure it's not monitored was to contact the new owner and tell them to just unplug the system from the wall. That's a decent solution for the new owner, but knowing that the system stops working if you unplug it makes me a bit concerned about how secure their security system is. What's to keep criminals from doing that to prevent the alarm going off.

I feel that the contract was misrepresented in a few areas and even employee reviews on Glassdoor say that the sales rep training teaches you to be underhanded. Needless to say, I would never recommend Vivint to anyone, friend or foe.

Reason of review: Cancelation fee was misrepresented.

Monetary Loss: $2400.

Preferred solution: Full refund.

Vivint Cons: Cancellation policy, Customer service, Being lied to.

Location: Tampa, Florida

2015-March Tampa : A team of VIVINT sales people in training were led by Richard Dale (marketing manager) into our community this week. Their goal was to sell wireless home alarm system and monitoring by stealing business away from existing ADT / Brinks customers.

Richard's sales pitch included free hardware and installation, as well as free surveillance cameras, plus smoke, glass break, Co2 detectors for a monthly monitoring cost of $40 on a 3-year contract.

While that may be a good deal for some, the issue for many of us "friendly" neighbors is that Richard Dale tried to play us off of each other, by telling prospects that so-and-so already signed a contract with him / Vivint when that was *entirely* untrue. Richard was hoping that would influence neighbors to sign on the spot ... but his calculated lie bit him in the ***. Not only were many of sharing his varying sales pitches, we knew he was using the same lie on both sides of the fence.

The sheriff's dept was called and he was escorted out of our NO SOLICITING neighborhood.

Word went out to the community about this, via our HOA broadcast messaging system and likely result in hindering sales.

Perhaps it's standard sales tactic to lie and trick potential customers. Richard Dale even tried getting neighbors to divulge names and details of neighbors, using lame tricks.

Agreed, this took place in our neighborhood this week, flat out lying about contracts being signed by neighbors to potential customers. I understand high pressure sales but trying to play neighbors/friends against each other is unprofessional.

In my opinion Richard Dale is a liar, scam artist, and untrustworthy.

I did call the local Sherriffs office due to him sitting in front of my home for 2 hours, I had to leave my 98 year old grandmother to get this gentleman off of our property.

I would never do business or recommend ANYONE doing business with a company that condones these tactics.
